The alchemist tells Santiago "you don't have to understand the desert: all you have to do is contemplate a single grain of sand, and you will see in it all the marvels of creation."
1) With this in mind, why do you think the alchemist chose to befriend Santiago, though he knew that the Englishman was the one looking for him?
2) What is the meaning of the two dead hawks and the falcon in the oasis?
3) At one point, the alchemist explains to Santiago the secret of successfully turning metal into gold. How does this process compare to finding a Personal Legend?
Due Monday Dec. 2nd at the end of class
1) I think that the alchemist chose to befriend Santiago instead of the Englishman because he knew that Santiago had true potential instead of the Englishman who was seaking the treasure of his Personal Legened without actually experiencing it.
ReplyDelete2) The meaning that I get from when the falcon got the two hawks that were possibly the ones that Santiago had seen in the desert was that the falcon was trying to say that Santago has done good and he has found the ways of the desert's teachings.
3) The process of turning metal into gold doesn't compare to finding your Personal Legend because when you find your Personal Legend, you become more wise and you learn more along the way, but when you just frivolously turn metal into gold, you wont have the knowledge of that to truely do with your creation.
Good responses Jaymee! I like your point about "frivolously" turning metal into gold.
Delete1.he choose to befriend him because he wanted santiago was pursing his personal legend.
ReplyDelete2.it means that stuff cant be understood by reason alone
3. it compares to it because with both of them you have to be wise
1) I think the Alchemist befriended him because he knew that he really wasnt looking for him and that the Alchemist knew that Santago needed his hep with understanding the dessert, to teach him more about the wourl and how it works in mysterious ways and guide him in the rite direction.
ReplyDelete2) Im not really sure but I think the meening of the Falcon was to show Santago how to ungerstand the dessert.
3) When you are "at one" with yourself in in Heros Journey you are at step 7 which is The Atonement.
Good reference to the atonement Taylor. How do you connect this to turning metal into gold/the personal legend?
Delete1) I think the Alchemist befriended him becasue even though the english man was smart, he wasnt as smart as the Achemist.
ReplyDelete2) i think its an omen to help Santiago understand the desert more.
3) it compares becasue that is what the alcheimests personal legend was.
1) "I think the Alchemist befriended him becasue even though the english man was smart, he wasnt as smart as the Achemist."
DeleteBy "him" do you mean Santiago or the Englishman?

ReplyDelete1) He choose to befriend him because he thought santiago was punishing his won personal legend.
ReplyDelete2) I think it mean some stuff cant cant be nudersood my meany reasons alone.
3) i think it compair's because santiago wats to be just like the alchemist, and he is trying to help him fofill his personol legond
1. I think the Alchemist befriended santiago becouse he new the boy could do it him self and find his own way.
ReplyDelete2.I think the two dead hawks and the falcon in the oasis ment that some thing bad can happen to the boy.
3.I think it compares becouse they both had to do something important in there life like there personal legend.
1. I think the Alchemist befriended Sandtiaho because he knew the boy had self control im himself.
ReplyDelete2.I think the two dead hawks to make Santiago find his own way.
3.I think when he showed him how to do it was because it was his own personal legend he did.
